Side Channel—Troubleshooting Guide

Low Capacity

Possible Causes

 

What To Do      

Pump speed too slow Use tachometer to determine pump speed. Adjust speed.

Low voltage Check motor speed.

Differential pressure too high Restriction in discharge piping or discharge piping is too small.

Clearance between impeller and stage casing too wide due to wear Replace casing and impeller.

Clogged strainer Clean strainer.

Suction pipe too small or restricted Indicated by pump inlet pressure dropping several pounds when pump is started. Remove restriction or modify piping.

Leaks in connections allowing air into pump Check connections.

Product contains over 50% vapor Review product and inlet piping for excessive pressure drop.

NPSH available does not meet required Review NPSH.
